ALBUM REVIEW – COUNTRY UPDATE MAGAZINE – MARCH 2010

Tara Naysmith – Now’s The Time

We’ve been waiting for this album from Tara Naysmith since her last EP appeared in 2004. That same year she was a finalist at Starmaker in Tamworth, but a woman’s got to do what a woman’s got to do and for a while there Tara had to focus on two small children. Luckily as the album title suggests, Now’s The Time for Tara’s rich voice and songsmith talents to escape once more to the notice of the world at large. The 13 songs are a perfect selection for her dulcet tones; with the five penned by Tara appearing to have come from her own real-life experiences. They include the inspiring ‘It’ll Be Me’, the reflective and uplifting title track ‘Now’s The Time’, the self-examining ‘Who is that Woman’, and the special ‘If I didn’t have You’. Rob Wilson (producer) has also contributed ‘Don’t Say a Word’ and ‘Do You Wanna Dance’, dueting with Tara on the latter. The rest of the songs have been sourced from a variety of songsmiths, and include Curtis Mayfield’s classic ‘People Get Ready’, which is given a soft countrified arrangement here. This album is the genuine article, unique vocals, great musicians and a collection of terrific songs….what more can you ask for?

ALBUM REVIEW - CAPITAL NEWS MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2010

Tara Naysmith's rich and soulful vocal shines throughout her debut full-length release 'Now's The Time'. Produced by Rob Wilson, who shares vocals on the track 'Do You Wanna Dance', the album includes the talents of Mick Albeck, Michel Rose and Scott Greenaway. Of the 13 tracks on offer, Tara's vocal talent is best showcased on tender tracks like the inspirational 'Ships', 'Dont Say A Word' and the reflective 'Who Is That Woman', which she also penned. But it's not only the ballads on which Tara excels. She is equally competent when it comes to mid-tempo toe-tappers like opener 'It'll Be Me', the catchy 'Hang on to your Halo' and the rocky 'If I Didn't Have You'. Also standing out on the album is a countrified version of Curtis Mayfields's soul standard 'People Get Ready', Tara takes the soul standard and makes it her own. Well worth a listen and as the title suggests, now may just be Tara Naysmith's time.
